Individual therapy, or individual counseling, is a form of therapy in which you work one-on-one with a mental health professional for support in resolving problems causing you some measure of distress or impairment. Together, you and your therapist may work to achieve certain objectives, increase various competencies and self-confidence, or in a more general sense, find an internal sense of peace.

Is Individual Therapy right for you?

It may be time to seek therapy if an issue is causing you moderate to sever mental, emotional or even physiological distress and or impairment. Below are some things that individual therapy can help with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety; fear or nervousness
  • Trauma
  • Attachment issues
  • Grief
  • Addiction
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Difficulty making or keeping friends
  • Difficulty finding romantic partners or maintaining romantic relationships- issues with sex and intimacy
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Difficulty adjusting to life changes (i.e., parenting, mid-life, empty nesting, retirement, etc.)
  • Anger management
  • Codependency
  • General incompetency

Why Bean Counseling & Recovery?

  • Your therapist will assume a person-centered approach in your counseling, which means you’ll be given the freedom to choose the focus of your therapy and will have the opportunity to lead discussion. Your therapist will encourage and support you with feedback and suggestions, as well as guide the therapeutic process without interfering with your process of self-discovery. It also means your therapist will serve as a compassionate facilitator, listen without interruption or judgment, and will acknowledge your experience, without invalidating or discounting it, or moving discussion in a direction you don’t want it to go.
  • While your therapist will assume a person-centered approach to therapy, he is also well prepared to adapt his clinical approach to meet your individual needs or preferences; using a more directive approach for those who may be seeking more prescriptive, strait-forward instruction.
  • Your therapist assumes an eclectic approach to therapy in which he will carefully select the most appropriate therapeutic model(s) and techniques for your unique problems and needs.
  • Your therapist is careful to prevent clinical complacency and carelessness by continuously honing, and assuring consistent use of, evidenced-based practices in every one of your appointments.
  • Your therapist is trained in several evidenced-based therapeutic modalities; including solution-focused therapy (SFT), motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy, a.k.a. “CBT,”(including trauma-focused CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
  • Easily accessible location- just off I-15 and State St. in Sandy.
  • Covered by several health insurance providers.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality.
